Purpose

To acquaint various segments of government with the industry and its views.  To familiarize the industry with pending administrative actions and legislation affecting the industry.

Scope

• To assist staff in developing and maintaining effective contacts with appropriate legislative and governmental personnel to assure that they are familiar with the industry, its importance, its problems and needs, and its accomplishments.

• To interpret for the industry legislative and administrative decisions affecting the industry, urging support or opposition.

• To assist in preparation and presentation of industry position statements and testimony on key issues, including state-level issues of potential national significance.

• To coordinate effectively with various organizations having similar government relations interests.

• To develop effective industry support for PMA legislative positions.

Meeting Information

Typically meet two times a year in Washington, D.C., which includes a committee meeting as well as Capitol Hill visits.  The committee may also hold additional meetings via conference call as needed.

Key Projects

• $200,000 fundraising goal for 2007-2008 election cycle
• Ongoing monitoring of legislation affecting metalworking industry
• Lead opposition to protectionism harmful to the metalforming industry

Past Projects and Accomplishments

• Led PMA's fight against the steel tariffs.
• Develops PMA's domestic policy statement and advocacy agenda each year.
• Increases the metalforming industry's presence in Washington, D.C. as a result of numerous lobbying visits.
• Raises funds for PMAVIC, the association's political action committee, and distributes the money to pro-manufacturing candidates for federal office, which in turn increases the pro-business voice in Congress.
