December 2008

December 2

Making Flat Rolled Flat-So It Stays That Way
PMA Headquarters, Cleveland, OH

Join us as we learn that covering flat rolled metal shape defects from the time the metal leaves the rolling mill until it is cut and formed into a finished product. Attendees should develop a better understanding of the sources of shape or surface defects and their options for preventing, eliminating, or compensating for them.

December 4

Sheetmetal Forming-Understanding the Properties
Detroit, MI

This one-day seminar explains relative formability between different sheetmetal, using more advanced mechanical properties as the key to understanding their forming capability. These properties control forming limits of different forming modes, including stretching, bending, and drawing. Special topics include springback, springback compensation, yield point elongation, surface roughness, and friction. A full range of steels covering yield strengths from 20 to 200 Ksi is examined, along with aluminum and other metals. By completing this seminar along with Sheetmetal 101 - Understanding the Metal and Higher-Strength Sheet Steels - Solving the Problems you will earn PMA's "Sheetmetal Certificate"!

December 9

Performance Based Die Engineering Strategies
Webinar beginning at 2:00 p.m. EST

Nearly all tool & die standards are function-based design specifications. Design requirements for function-based die processes consider operational function of the die only. These type designs are responsible for inconsistent and oftentimes undesirable results in the press room and die shop. The natural deficiencies of function-based die designs are greatly magnified when applied to advanced high strength steel stampings. Today, there is a growing need to replace function-based design methods with proven die-engineering strategies based on die performance. Performance-based strategies assure robust tooling processes, economical stamping methods and adequate control of the forming process. This is revolutionary approach to die design and construction will be presented through this webinar. Join us and learn more!

December 9

Sheetmetal 101 - Understanding the Metal
Holiday Inn Brownsville, TX

This one-day seminar, taught by leading expert Dr. Stuart Keeler, will include assessing relative formability between two sheet metals, using basic mechanical properties as the key to forming capability, predicting which metal parameters control different forming modes - from stretch to draw, understanding why sheet metals today have greatly improved capability and consistency, debunking many myths and ancient tales about sheet metal, and creating a win-win partnership with your metal supplier. Register for Sheemetal Forming also and receive $100 off!

December 9

OEM Insolvency Risks and Strategies Webinar
Webinar at 11:00 a.m. (EST)

Join attorney Matt Wilkins, shareholder, Butzel Long for an hour long presentation addressing OEM insolvency risks and strategies. During this webinar attendees will see what a bankruptcy at one of the OEM's would look like and suppliers' strategies for dealing with the same.

December 10
